Gmail is free for all users. Simply sign up for an account at gmail.com.

Gmail requires users to enter a name and create a unique username and password. If the username is taken, the system will recommend something similar. The password must be at least eight characters long, and the strength of the password will be indicated.

Select a security question and enter a location, birth date and secondary email. After typing the security verification, one must agree to the terms of service to open the account. Users have the option of entering a mobile phone number as an added security precaution.
