Pekingese dogs that weigh less than 6 pounds are called sleeve Pekingese. The next weight class is the mini Pekingese, which can weigh up to 8 pounds. In general, Pekingese weigh up to 14 pounds.
This is an ancient breed that originated in China. The smallest of this lap-dog breed earned the name "sleeve" due to being small enough to be carried around in the sleeves of their owners' clothes. The Pekingese is also called the lion dog due to its lion-like appearance. It can also be called a Peking Palasthund. As of 2014, this breed is mostly used for companionship and shows.
