As of 2014, Suriname is the smallest country in South America. Suriname is located in northern South America, between French Guiana and Guyana. Suriname comprises an area over 63,000 square miles, making it a little larger than the U.S. state of Georgia. Suriname is bordered by the North Atlantic Ocean.
In addition to French Guiana and Guyana, Suriname also borders Brazil. Suriname is situated close to the equator and has a hot, humid tropical climate with average temperatures ranging between about 84 and 97 degrees Fahrenheit. Suriname's two wet seasons occur from April to August and from November to February.
