SMPT is an abbreviation for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol and is one of the TCP/IP protocols that is used to send emails. By default, SMPT operates using port 25 in a TCP/IP connection and is solely responsible for the delivery of email between two parties, such as email servers.

As a protocol, SMTP is used to perform two specific functions. First, SMTP verifies that an email sender is approved by the server. The second function returns the email if the message is undeliverable to the requested email address. Undeliverable emails can occur due to errors with the receiving user or an incorrect email address.
