What does "TPC" stand for?

The designation "TPC" is used in place of golf to define a golf course owned by the PGA Tour, and stands for Tournament Players Club. The acronym is also widely used for Tournament Players Course, which is often used to describe the same golf courses.

There are a variety of TPC courses available, running the gamut from private and resort courses to some daily fee courses. TPC courses have been in operation since 1980, with the opening of the first one, the Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. As of 2014, there are over 30 TPC coursesf located around the world.
