Do snails lay eggs?

Snails reproduce by laying eggs. All snails have the ability to fertilize and carry eggs, not just the female, which enables far more eggs to be delivered.

Snails are considered hermaphrodites, which means that every snail has both male and female reproductive organs. Snails carry out a mating ritual that lasts from two to 12 hours and ends with both snails fertilizing eggs in their partner. Each snail can carry up to 100 fertilized eggs at a time. Snails typically find a cool place with topsoil where they create a small hole for their eggs to be placed, protecting the eggs until they hatch.
