What is South Africa's nickname?

The nickname of South Africa's international football, or soccer, team is Bafana Bafana. This nickname comes from a Zulu saying that translates more or less to "the lads" or "our boys."

The nickname became attached to the South African team soon after South African apartheid ended in 1992, and the country was allowed to rejoin international competition. At first, the South African Football Association avoided the use of the name because a local man owned the trademark to the phrase, which hampered SAFA's marketing efforts. SAFA came to embrace the nickname but, as of 2014, has decided to look for a new nickname because of the marketing issue.
