Where do sparrows live?

Sparrows live in North America and South America, residing in man made structures, such as bridges, porch lights, gutters and provided nesting boxes. Sparrows survive best in cities and towns where secure nesting spots are located and discarded food is plentiful.

There are no sparrows in deserts or densely wooded areas. Few sparrows will make nests in hollow trees, although some may use a tree close to a neighborhood or highly populated area when nesting.

Sparrows thrive on commercially created bird seed and will happily eat from a feeder. Mother sparrows feed their babies insects. A sparrow that chooses a safe nesting spot will often reuse the same nest for years.
