Who is the Speaker of the House?

As of October 2014, the current Speaker of the House is John Boehner, a businessman and native of southwestern Ohio. Boehner was elected to Congress in 1990, elected as the House Majority Leader in 2006, sworn in as Speaker of the House in 2011, and re-elected as Speaker in 2013.

As Speaker of the House, John Boehner is designated to serve as the face of the House of Representatives and serves as the presiding officer. His primary duty is to determine which bills are heard by the House and which will be voted on during sessions. Boehner is a member of the Republican party.
