The Rubicon Trail is a 22-mile county road in El Dorado County, California. A 12-mile segment of the road is considered the most difficult off-roading course in the world as of 2015.
The Rubicon Trail began as a Native American trail across the High Sierra and grew into a route from Lake Tahoe to Georgetown, California. In 1908, the first motorized vehicle drove the trail, which led to the Rubicon Trail being used for the transport of lumber and other supplies. The 12 miles that the Rubicon Trail is famous for is the testing site for the vehicle manufacturer Jeep -- it named its Jeep Wrangler Rubicon model after the famed trail.
