A July 2014 MSN article noted that Kansas has the highest average number of recorded F3 to F5 tornadoes each year, at 3.1. The Weather Channel ranked Florida as the "top tornado state" in March 2012 because of its average of 12.3 annual tornadoes per 10,000 miles of territory.
Arkansas is the state with the second-highest annual average of F3 to F5 tornadoes, according to MSN. Other states that average between one and three F3 to F5 tornadoes per year, in order of average number of occurrences, are Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Mississippi, Iowa, Minnesota, Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky and South Dakota.
