Ninety-six percent of Yellowstone National Park's 3,972 square miles is in Wyoming. Three percent of Yellowstone is in Montana, and 1 percent is in Idaho.
Approximately 50 percent of the park is covered by forest, 15 percent by grassland and 5 percent by water. The highest point of Yellowstone is Eagle Peak at an elevation of 11,358 feet; the lowest point is Reese Creek at 5,282 feet. The Park attracts more than 3 million visitors annually through its north, northeast, south, east and west entrances. The Park boasts at least 15 miles of boardwalks and roughly 1,000 miles of back-country trails.
