The safest states to live in as of 2014 are Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Hawaii and District of Columbia, according to WalletHub. To reach this result, several factors were taken into account, including driving safety, financial safety, workplace safety, home and community safety and natural disasters risk.
Massachusetts ranked first for financial safety, driving safety and home and community safety, but only ranked fifth for workplace safety. New Hampshire was number one in terms of workplace safety. Other states with a high overall rank of safety include Iowa, Illinois, Connecticut, New York, Utah, Maine, New Jersey, Ohio, Vermont and Maryland.
