When will stimulus checks be mailed?

The Economic Stimulus Payment checks were mailed in 2008, based on information filed on 2007 income tax returns. Eligible taxpayers who didn't receive a stimulus check, or who qualified for a larger amount, claimed a recovery rebate credit when filing their 2008 return.

The stimulus checks were a prepayment of the 2008 recovery credit, intended to stimulate the American economy by putting cash into taxpayers' hands before they could file 2008 tax returns. The checks were up to $600 for an eligible individual, $1,200 for a married couple that filed jointly and an additional $300 for each qualifying dependent child. The ability to claim the rebate credit ended on April 15, 2012, when the three-year deadline for filing an amended 2008 return expired. As of 2015, no further stimulus checks are available.
