Stonewall Jackson, the singer, was named after Confederate Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, as the former Jackson's family claims they are related. However, these claims are likely untrue, as Gen. Jackson's only descendant was his daughter, Julia, who would not carry the last name "Jackson."
Stonewall Jackson was born in 1932, and, after moving to Nashville, Tennessee, he rose to prominence through performances at the Grand Ole Opry. In 1957, Jackson signed with Columbia Records, and produced a number of hit songs in the 1960s, such as "Why I'm Walkin'" and "I Washed My Hands in Muddy Water." In 2012, Jackson was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame.
