What is stored energy called?

Stored energy is most commonly referred to as potential energy, which has the potential to do work. Potential energy is also generally a result of gravity pulling down on an object and can be represented by the gravitational constant of g.
The concept of potential energy was first introduced by the Scottish engineer William Rankine. Potential energy also has ties with Aristotle’s concept of potentiality, and it is associated with forces that act on a body dependent upon a body’s position in space. These body forces are represented by a vector, which forms a vector field or what is commonly known as a force field.
