What are the survival rates for ductal carcinoma?

Average five-year relative survival rates are 99 percent for local ductal carcinoma in the breast and 84 percent for regionalized disease that has spread to the lymph nodes, according to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. After cancer spreads to other parts of the body, five-year relative survival is 26 percent.

Treatment for local disease is often surgery and/or radiation, says the National Breast Cancer Foundation. For patients whose disease has spread to the lymph nodes or other parts of the body, chemotherapy may be administered in addition to surgery or radiation. Some patients may also choose to enroll in clinical trials in which research is being done on new treatments, says WebMD.
