As of 2010, the five-year survival rate for children under 15 with Ewing's sarcoma is 78 percent and 60 percent for adolescents between the ages of 15 and 19, according to the National Cancer Institute. Adults older than 30 are only very rarely affected by the disease, states WebMD.

Ewing's sarcoma is a type of cancer that originates in the bones. In its early stages, the disease often shares symptoms with many other illnesses, making early detection difficult. A typical treatment strategy for the disease consists of chemotherapy followed by either surgery or radiation. Children who undergo treatment for Ewing's sarcoma may develop second cancers or suffer brain impairment that causes learning difficulties later in life, says WebMD.
