What are some symptoms of a ruptured vein in your legs?

Symptoms of a ruptured vein in the leg include swelling, discoloration and bleeding through the skin, according to Veincare Centers of Tennessee and Healthline. Swelling sometimes occurs near the site of the broken blood vessel. Blood leaks out of the vein into the surrounding tissue, causing the area to bulge.
Bleeding into the tissue sometimes causes a color change, Healthline explains. In certain cases, small reddish or purplish dots called petechiae form. If the bleeding is extensive, larger sections of discoloration called purpura appear. If the skin covering the vein is exceptionally thin, blood can move through the skin to its surface, notes Veincare Centers of Tennessee.
