Where does synthetic hair come from?

Synthetic hair is derived from fibers such as acrylic, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, modacrylic, polyester and nylon. Typically, two or more of these polymers are used together the create the hair strands. Modacrylic polymers are the conventional material used to form synthetic hair.
The polymers are heated and turned into strands that resemble natural hair fibers. The strands are then tied in hair extensions or pieces. The hair strands look more realistic when high-grade polymers are used to create the fibers. The polymers can be molded into straight, wavy or kinky hair strands. The spinning process can transform the strands into coarse or fine hair fibers.
