The "Tao-te Ching" is a classic text of Chinese philosophy. The text provides the foundations of the tradition of Taoism or Daoism. The "Tao-te Ching" is also written in English as "Daodejing."

The "Tao-te Ching" discusses the inexpressible source of all apparent things. It also addresses Te, which makes Tao manifest and understandable, enabling humans to reunite with Tao. Translated to English, the title of the book means "classic of the way of power" or "the book of the way and its power." The "Tao-te Ching" is usually attributed to Laozi, but by the 19th century, this attribution had become highly disputed. Historians are unsure who the actual author of the text was.
