The opera "La Traviata" was written by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi. It premiered on March 6th, 1853 in Venice at La Fenice opera house and is one of the most performed operas worldwide.
"La Traviata" was written after Verdi had suffered personal family tragedies and had sworn never to write another opera. Initially, the opera was not received well, primarily due to casting concerns and the "morally questionable" subject matter. After revision and replacing the main female singer, "La Traviata" became a popular success. There have been several films and a documentary based on the opera and the musical arrangements have inspired other classical works.
