Who wrote "The Canterbury Tales"?

The author of "The Canterbury Tales" is Geoffrey Chaucer. Chaucer's works are considered to be a cornerstone of English literature and are taught in universities across the globe. Born in London in 1343, he was famous for his use of satire and dry humor to bring attention to the faults of society in his time.

In his life time, Chaucer worked as a public servant and served in the Hundred Years' War. Although "The Canterbury Tales" is Chaucer's most famous work, he also wrote other titles including "Parliament of Fouls" and "Troilus and Criseyde." Chaucer was buried in London's Westminster Abbey in Poet's Corner after he died in 1400.
