According to Fit Day, taro tastes starchy, similar to a potato. For this reason, taro is often used in the same cooking preparations as potatoes.

Although taro tastes similar to potatoes, it has significantly denser nutritional value. For instance, taro has triple the amount of dietary fiber as the same serving of potatoes. It also has a low glycemic index, meaning that it is low in carbohydrates and is less likely to cause energy crashes, cravings or bored hunger. Taro is also a great source of potassium and contains a high amount of protein and most E and B vitamins.
