Imaging tests, such as X-rays or ultrasounds ,may be done to find a mass on the pancreas. The doctor may first do a physical to feel for any abnormalities, notes the American Cancer Society.

Any image tests that allow the inside of the body to be viewed may be used to diagnose a pancreatic mass. CT scans also help determine if there is a cause for concern. The patient is placed in a tube and X-rays are taken of their body. MRIs are another image test that can be done. MRIs are very similar to CT scans, but generally take a little longer.
