In the United States, tornadoes are most likely to occur between early spring and summer depending on the location. This time frame is sometimes called "tornado season."
The United States sees approximately 1,200 tornadoes per year. While a tornado can occur any time of the year, most happen during tornado season. Tornado season varies depending on location. In the Southern Plains, it's generally May to early June. The Gulf Coast experiences most tornadoes in the early spring. The upper Midwest and Northern Plains generally see more tornadoes in June and July instead. Most tornadoes occur between 4 and 9 p.m.
