What are some tips for cleaning a curling iron?

To clean a curling iron, wipe the barrel of the curling iron with a cotton pad soaked in rubbing alcohol while the styling tool is cool. Let the barrel warm up slightly if you cannot easily clean away the residue with the rubbing alcohol.

Always unplug the curling iron before cleaning it. Never submerge the curling iron in water, even when the tool is unplugged. This can cause water to seep inside and cause internal damage.

If the stuck-on hairspray and other residue don't come off with rubbing alcohol, rub on a paste made of three parts baking soda and one part water. Wipe the paste off of the curling iron with a damp cloth.
