Is there a train that runs to Machu Picchu from Lima?

As of 2015, there is no train that runs directly to Machu Picchu from Lima. Visitors to Machu Picchu must first travel to Cusco and board a train there. Direct flights from Lima to Cusco are available through LAN and Peruvian Airlines.
Once in Cusco, travelers can get a train to Aguas Calientes using Inca Rail or PeruRail. Both companies offer several trips that make the journey every day. The town of Aguas Calientes is used as a base for visits to Machu Picchu. In Aguas Calientes, travelers can purchase tickets for the shuttle bus, which runs daily and takes passengers to the entrance of Machu Picchu; the trip is about 20 minutes each way.
