What is the TransAmerica Trail?

The TransAmerica Trail is a continuous network of bicycle trails that run from the West Coast at Astoria, Oregon to the East Coast at Yorktown, Virginia. This trail covers 10 states over a total distance of approximately 4,230 miles, which takes cyclists about three months to cross depending on pace and sightseeing stops.
The route that is now known as the TransAmerica Trail has its roots in the Bikecentennial '76 trail, a cross-country bike route originated to celebrate the United States Bicentennial in 1976. Because the route has been in operation for decades, there are established overnight stops and restaurants along the way to ensure safety and comfort.
