Cradle cap can be treated by massaging the baby's scalp using either natural oils or baby oil at night. This softens the scales and flakes created by cradle cap which makes it easier to brush off in the morning prior to washing.

Another treatment method for cradle cap is by more frequent hair washing and a thorough brushing that removes any flaky skin that came loose. As of 2015, shampoos that loosen flakes and scales created by cradle cap are also available for purchase. These shampoos are stronger than the average baby shampoo and may cause eye irritation. If cradle cap begins to spread to the face or body, take the baby to see a physician or doctor.
