Salmon is a versatile meat and can be paired with rose, red or white wine, says About.com wine expert Stacy Slinkard. The ideal wine selection depends on the way the salmon was prepared and on the seasonings and sauces used.
Rose is often the first choice for salmon dishes and pairs well with most recipes. It pairs especially well with poached salmon, smoked salmon or a salmon pate. Grilled salmon, pan-seared salmon and baked salmon pair well with red wine, particularly Pinot noir. White wine can accompany many salmon dishes. Sauvignon blanc pairs well with citrus or herb recipes, while Chardonnay goes well with buttery and creamy salmon dishes.
