What are some typical aluminum alloys?

Aluminum alloys are primary casting alloys and wrought alloys. The most important cast alloy is made with silicon. Most aluminum is used in wrought alloys, which includes rolled plates, foils and extrusions.

An aluminum alloy is a compound that consists of primarily aluminum mixed with other metals. This can commonly be copper, magnesium, manganese, silicon and zinc. Alloys can either be heat-treatable or non-heat-treatable. Aluminum alloys are used in fan blades, sheet metals, truck frames and aircraft structures.

Scandium-aluminum alloys are used in the aerospace industry. The Sc-Al alloy creates a nano-scale precipitate that forms smaller crystals than other alloys, which are then used for minor aerospace components. Scandium is the most potent strengtheners of aluminum.
