Symptoms of knee tendinitis include pain above and below the knee during movement and swelling. The condition is caused by inflammation of the knee tendon, according to Harvard Medical School. Knee tendinitis is an overuse injury caused by vigorous activity, lack of muscle flexibility, age and obesity.
Knee tendinitis symptoms can be relieved with ice and over-the-counter pain relievers. Tendinitis usually resolves on its own within a few months; however, using a knee brace or limiting activities involving the knees can help healing. Exercises designed to improve muscle flexibility and balance can prevent knee tendinitis from recurring, reports Harvard Medical School.
