As of January 27th, 2015, the U.S. postage rate for a postcard is 34 cents. Since the postal service was formed in 1971, stamp prices have generally stayed consistent with the 4.2 percent average annual rate of inflation.
Current U.S. postage rates for First Class mail include 49 cents for one ounce letters domestically, and $1.15 for one ounce letters to all international destinations. The letter rate increased by three cents in 2014 over the previous postage rate. Increases in postage prices are a last resort reflecting extreme financial challenges to the USPS, according to Board of Governors of the Postal Service Chairman Mickey Barnett.
