When do you use homemade puppy formula?

Homemade puppy formula is used to wean a puppy from his mother. Weaning is the process of gradually reducing a puppy's dependency on his mother for food and care.

A puppy is normally introduced to the weaning formula three to four weeks after his birth. The formula is a semiliquid mixture of high-quality dry or wet puppy food and warm water or puppy milk replacer. Condensed milk is not recommended because its high sugar content can lead to osmotic diarrhea. The mixture is made with a soupy consistency in the beginning, and it is gradually made dryer as the puppy gets used to solid food.
