Rabbit fur can be used to make hats, coats or lining for winter clothing. The rex breed of rabbits is bred primarily for its fur.

Castor rex and chincilla rex rabbits are used for their fur. The fur of both rabbits is brown, but castor fur is often a cheaper alternative to chinchilla fur. There are three types of rabbit hair. The guide hairs are the external hairs and are rough and long. The barbes or guard hairs are groups of four hairs around the guide hairs. The shortest hair is the down hair. There are about 60 down hairs around each guide hair. Orylag rabbits are bred for fur, but they are also bred for their meat.
