What is a VCF file?

A virtual contact file format stores contact information for businesses and individuals digitally as an electronic business card. A typical VCF file includes various information, such as address, email address, phone number and contact name.

People use VCF files to transfer contact information through both email and digital address books. The file format also supports images, logos and website addresses that are embedded into the body of the electronic business card.

As of 2014, VCF files are compatible with both the Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Mobile users enjoy the fact the iPhone is able to directly download contact information from VCF files.
