When did Jeep begin manufacturing the Wrangler Rubicon with a diesel engine?

Jeep does not manufacture a Wrangler in any package, including Sport, Sahara or Rubicon, with a diesel engine, as of 2015. Jeep only offers a diesel engine in its Grand Cherokee vehicles. Currently the only available engine in a new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is the 6-cylinder gasoline powered model.

Industry reporters have speculated on when Jeep may release a Wrangler version with a diesel engine, but the company has not announced any specific dates. Jeep enthusiasts are interested in the potential option because of the increased torque available from a diesel-powered source. Jeep uses the Fiat built 3.0-liter Ecodiesel engine for its Grand Cherokee, which supplies 240 horsepower with 420 pound-feet of torque.
