What is vermiculite attic insullation?
By Forinfos - 04/05/2026 - 0 comments
Vermiculite insulation is a pour-in insulation that is pebble-like in appearance. It is designed to regulate the temperature of a home. The grains are typically gray-brown or silver-gold in color. If there is vermiculite insulation in the home, it can be found in the attic between the floor joists.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, 70 percent of all vermiculite insulation sold in the United States from 1919 to 1990 was contaminated with asbestos. The contaminated insulation was sold under the brand name Zonoite. The EPA recommends all vermiculite insulation be treated as if it contains asbestos and that it not be disturbed and that it be removed by a trained professional.
