What are walk-in hair salons?

A walk-in hair salon provides hair services without an appointment. Customers have their hair styled by whichever stylists are working at that time. Large chain salons such as Great Clips or MasterCuts offer walk-in services as do many small, independent salons.

Services such as washing, cutting, coloring and blow-drying are commonly offered at walk-in salons. Some treatments, such as straightening or perms, may require an initial consultation followed by an appointment. Services at walk-in salons are generally less expensive than appointment-only salons. Tipping the stylist is customary after receiving services; if the customer is happy, tipping 20 to 25 percent is expected.
