The Walt Whitman Bridge spans the Delaware River from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Gloucester City in Camden County, New Jersey. It is owned and operated by the Delaware River Port Authority.
The American poet Walt Whitman was a resident in nearby Camden, New Jersey, late in his life. The bridge is part of Interstate 76 and is one of six expressway-standard bridges that connect Philadelphia and New Jersey. The seven-lane bridge opened in 1957, and it charges a westbound toll of $5 as of September 2015. The bridge has three dedicated lanes traveling in each direction, as well as a middle lane that can be switched to accommodate heavy traffic in either direction.
