What do water dragons eat?

Water dragons prefer to eat live protein sources such as mealworms, fish, crickets and locusts, although some will eat freshly shredded vegetables. The protein sources should be fed live so that the water dragon can exercise its hunting instinct.

Any fresh vegetables should be fed sparingly, as a water dragon's main diet should consist of meat. Water dragons fed the same foods repeatedly may begin to refuse food. Changing the variety of its diet will prevent food refusal and ensure adequate nutrition.

Young water dragons need smaller pieces of food. Chopping up worms and crickets into bite-sized pieces is the best way to feed a young water dragon.
