Weight gain is not among the main symptoms of hyperparathyroidism, as listed by MedlinePlus. Loss of appetite and vomiting are among the symptoms of hyperparathyroidism, so gaining weight as a result of this condition is unlikely.
When the parathyroid glands in the neck region produce excess parathyroid hormone hyperparathyroidism occurs, explains MedlinePlus. Parathyroid hormone helps in regulation of calcium levels in the blood. Excess production of the parathyroid hormone disrupts the calcium balance in the body and can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, depression, bone pain and tenderness, bone frailty and increased need for urination as well as kidney stones, nausea and appetite loss.
