The 1912 presidential election candidates included Republican incumbent William Taft, Democrat Woodrow Wilson, Progressive Theodore Roosevelt and the Socialist Party's Eugene Debs. Wilson led the Democratic Party to a landslide victory, securing 435 electoral votes.

Wilson was the lone Democrat to win the presidency from 1892 to 1932 and just the second since 1860, though he did gain re-election in 1916. Roosevelt previously served from 1901 to 1909, taking office after the assassination of William McKinley and serving a complete term after. His distant runner-up finish in 1912 was the last (as of 2014) in which a representative from outside of the Democratic and Republican parties finished second in the electoral or popular vote.
