The Kush was a group of people who are credited with beginning a large African society, right after the Egyptians settled there. The Kush religion started around 6,000 B.C. and was called the Nubian religion. It centered around a number of gods, the leader of which was Amon.
The Kush also believed in lesser gods, many of which were thought to be nonhuman. Gods and goddesses the Kush worshipped included Horus, Isis and Bes. The Kush people held rituals and rites in temples that became crowded during these and other religious ceremonies. As the Kush empire began its decline, the old religion was taken over by Christianity.
