The Jeep Cherokee was first created and sold in 1978, based off of Jeep's flagship Wagoneer. It was marketed in both left- and right-drive countries.
The Jeep Cherokee was assembled in Toledo, Ohio, and Brisbane, Australia. The engine in the Cherokee was advanced for the era. When it was released, it could outrun any similar vehicle in its class with top speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. However, the fuel efficiency and overall high cost in comparison to other brands made the Cherokee unpopular in certain markets. There were also 10 models of the Cherokee, including one basic model and nine trim models.
