Barack Obama was elected as President of the United States on November 4, 2008 and sworn into office on January 20, 2009. He is the 44th President of the United States.
On August 4, 1961, President Obama was born in Hawaii. He grew up on the island and later moved to Chicago, where he worked his way through college with student loans and scholarships. He later attended law school at Harvard, where he became the first African-American to serve as president of the Harvard Law Review. Prior to his appointment as President of the United States, he served in the Illinois State Senate and the United States Senate.
