Where are the 2016 Olympics scheduled to be held?

The 2016 Summer Olympics are scheduled to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Rio de Janeiro beat out Chicago, Tokyo and Madrid to win its bid to host the Olympics.

International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge announced the choice of Rio on Oct. 2, 2009, at the 121st session of the International Olympic Committee. The 2016 Rio Summer Olympics begin on Aug. 5, 2016, and end on Aug. 21st, 2016, and they are scheduled to take place in four zones of the city: Barra, Copacabana, Deodoro and Maracanã. Rio de Janiero is the first city in South America to host the Olympic Games and the only non-Australian city in the southern hemisphere to host them.
