What advantage do stalked eyes give a crayfish?

Stalked eyes, or eyestalks, give the crayfish a better field of vision, as they are located independently of the head. Crayfish are freshwater crustaceans that closely resemble lobsters. An average crayfish can grow between 2 and 6 inches in length and has two pairs of antennae.

Crayfish live on the bottom of freshwater lakes and streams. They prefer muddy areas with lots of rocks and foliage for cover. As nocturnal animals, crayfish are more active at night and use this time to hunt for small invertebrates. They also consume plants and decaying organic matter. A crayfish's claws are used to handle food and in self-defense from predators, such as raccoons.
