At what age can a cat get pregnant?

A cat can get pregnant at approximately 16 weeks of age. Due to the average gestation period of a cat, a feline impregnated at this age gives birth at about 6 months old.
The American Veterinary Medical Association recommends spaying cats at about 2 months old. Early spaying prevents unwanted pregnancies and enhances the overall health and well being of a feline. The average feline gestation period lasts 63 to 69 days. Some breeds carry litters for a couple of days beyond this average time period. Kittens born before day 60 typically are too immature to survive in most cases.
